The sun heats a solution inside the panels. Through a closed loop system, that heat is transferred via a pump station, to a heat exchanger located inside the hot water tank. Propane or electric backup will warm the water more, if needed, before distribution throughout the house. The interior water heater is similar in size to a standard electric unit. Roof top solar panels that look like skylights will minimally impact the overall look of your roof line.
